What This Registry Covers

Wayne's fishing boat is registered with Transport Canada under the Small Vessel Register. This certificate was issued on January 31, 2024, and is valid through January 31, 2029. The registration number is 9254-C35487BC, and it's marked on the vessel itself in block characters so it's visible from the water.

A Small Vessel Registry means the boat meets Canada's shipping regulations and is authorized to carry paying passengers on fishing charters. Transport Canada issues these registrations to commercial vessel operators who comply with the Canada Shipping Act 2001 and related maritime rules that apply to small commercial vessels in Canadian waters.

Your Boat for the Day

Full Melt Charters operates from a 23-foot Grady-White fishing boat positioned in Sooke, BC, minutes from some of Vancouver Island's most productive salmon and halibut grounds. The boat carries up to 5 passengers and is outfitted with electric down-riggers, navigational equipment, and top-of-the-line fishing gear. There's a toilet on board for your convenience, and Wayne keeps the boat clean and well-maintained.

Wayne will provide all the instruction and equipment you need. He has a long history working with families and children, and he brings an encouraging, supportive attitude to every trip. If a First Mate is aboard to help run the trip smoothly, a 10–20% tip is customary to show your appreciation for their work.

Fishing Trips Around Vancouver Island

Full Melt Charters runs several fishing trips targeting salmon and halibut across the productive waters near Sooke. On trolling trips, you'll cast lines while the boat moves through different depths, giving your lures a natural action and the chance to feel a sudden strike. These trips often cover grounds near Sooke Harbour, Secretary Island, Beechey Head, and Race Rocks, offering variety in scenery and fishing conditions.

For halibut, Wayne will take you to offshore grounds where these flatfish feed on the seafloor. Instead of trolling, bait is lowered to depth, and you'll feel the anticipation as you wait for a bite. The real challenge begins when a Pacific halibut takes hold—these are powerful fish that demand attention and skill to land.

Fish you catch are yours to take home, as long as they're within the legal limit. Wayne will clean your catch for you, or arrange to have it taken to a processor for shipping within Canada. That makes for great dinner.

How to Prepare for Your Trip

You'll need to buy a local British Columbia fishing license before the trip. This is a separate permit required by the province and is available online or through the captain. Bring extra layers, sunscreen, a hat, bottled water, and sunglasses—the water can be cool and the sun intense, even on overcast days. Alcohol is allowed in moderation.

Trips are open to the whole family and children of all ages. Wayne's goal is to get you on the water with the rod in your hands, landing fish yourself with his guidance and direction. Every trip is a chance to learn, cast, and feel the thrill of the strike in your own grip.
